A lot of people travel in search of the perfect shopping places, and Kuala Lumpur does not disappoint as there’s lots of great shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur. So due to the fact that the cultures in Malaysia are quite a lot, the shopping malls all offer a plethora of different options. Those eight best shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur do compete with each other, but also offer completely varying products. You’ll rarely find the same thing in both malls and that adds tremendously to your diverse shopping experience. We’re talking different products, architectures, even different festival decorations (that each mall tries to top the other for) and much more.

Best Shopping Malls In Kuala Lumpur

Sungei Wang Plaza

This mall was built in 1977 and is this perfect nostalgic addition to your shopping trip. You get to really experience what Bukit Bintang was like in its older days – the raw, true face of it all. It does not succumb to glamor or pretentious and it’s not the most upscale of all the other options we will be discussing, but Sungei Wang Plaza is all about its simple aura.

The shops come in huge varieties, where you can be lost for hours and keep discovering more and more shops. It’s popular with all types of people – but specially for locals and people who have a knack for collecting stuff. Whether it’s vintage stuff or those hard-to-find items, you will probably find them there. Always remember – a little bargaining goes a long way.

Pavillion Kuala Lumpur

This is by far the most famous and one of the best shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur of them all. This is number one in terms of shops, brands and decorations along with a sense of class and luxury. The interior is extremely classy and there are hundreds of shops that cater to the needs of people with all budgets – from high-end brands for people with high budgets, to more affordable stores, all options are available! Make sure you visit there during Christmas for some of the most extravagant Christmas decorations!

Suria KLCC:

This place is mostly famous for its architecture that remains an icon of innovation! It’s also a place where you can expect to find the most high-end brands. From Louis Vuitton to Alexander McQueen – this mall is the perfect place to go to if you’re into pampering yourself a little bit.

If the architecture and the high-end brands are not enough, then you’d be happy to know that there is also an aquarium, a science discovery center and a huge bookstore.

Mid Valley MegaMall

If you want to drive a little bit away from the center of Kuala Lumpur, then pay the Mid Valley Megamall a visit as it’s a great shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur. It’s actually more of a complex than just a mall. You’ll find malls, hotels, office blocks and even another mall- all in a cluster around each other. You’ll find all types of shops, grocery stores and of course the much needed branded goods. If you’re into watching a good movie – then you’re also in luck because the Mid Valley Megamall houses the biggest cinema in that side of Kuala Lumpur with eighteen screens.

Did you know? This place was actually called the largest urban development project for a while and for good reason!

1 Utama

Another mall, another giant! This mall soars proudly into the sky and boasts the title of “largest mall in Malaysia” and is also one of the largest in the world. We’re talking the 7th largest in the world when it comes to malls! Are you ready to be truly overwhelmed> With a plethora of stores (over 700 to be exact!), it’ll be hard not to find what you’re looking for. It’s also a bit far from the center – about a 30 minute drive from KL Sentral (more in peak hours of course.)

The mall itself is also surrounded by giants like IKEA, so it’s kind of a one-stop place for all your shopping needs.

Note: Make sure to plan accordingly when it’s holiday season because that’s when the number of visitors soars. That’s not only because everyone wants to shop (which they do!) but also because the decorations are as extravagant as they can get! Expect people of all ages and backgrounds.
