The train is the best option to get to the center of Amsterdam from Amsterdam airport. It is both quick and comfortable. In fact, it only takes around 15 to 20 minutes to get there. The train goes from the AMS Schipol to Amsterdam Central Station. You will be taking the main train line in Netherlands, run by Nederlandse Spoorwegen.
The train station is conveniently located right underneath the airport and runs 24/7. However, depending on the time of day, the train departs at different times. For example, between 6 am to midnight, there is a train leaving the station multiple times each hour. However, from midnight to 6 am, there a single train leaving every hour. It also heads to other places around the city including Amstel and Sloterdijk.
The price for a one way ticket is 3.30€ and for a round trip ticket, as long as it is on the same day, is €7.80. There are several places you can buy train tickets. Look for large square ticketing machines on the train platform or near the offices of the train line.
Taking A Taxi From AMS Schiphol To City Center
A taxi is the best option if you don’t have a lot of time or just want to get straight to your Amsterdam destination. There are two taxi options at the AMS airport that goes to the center of Amsterdam. One, you can share a taxi with other people. Two, you can get a private taxi for just you and your group. However, be warned, taking a taxi is not cheap. In fact, it can cost around 40-50€ to get to the city center. However, if this is not a concern, you can catch any taxi in front of the airport arrival terminal.
Taking The Bus From Amsterdam Airport To City Center
If you would rather take the bus, there are several bus lines that go into Amsterdam. During the day, you can take lines 197 or 370, which leaves every 15 minutes. Line 197 goes to Leidseplein and Line 370 goes to Oud Zuid. In the evenings between 12:30 am and 5 in the morning, take the evening bus equivalents, lines 97 or 358.
You can find the buses in the Schiphol Plaza. This is right next to arrivals and departures.
